RYA Sailing Courses Southampton
International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
Minimum qualification required by some Mediterranean port authorities
This is a certificate that is increasingly required by Mediterranean port authorities. It is of similar level to RYA Day Skipper.
This is an NOT a Entry Level assessment
– The assessment can take up to 4 hours.
– The certificate itself is valid for 5 years.
The level of skill and knowledge required is similar to RYA Day Skipper practical.
In the UK it is overseen and awarded by the RYA. If you already have Day Skipper Practical and require an ICC, the RYA will supply one on the strength of your DS certificate.
Most RYA training centres, including SEAFARER TRAINING UK,, offer pre assessment preparation if required, as well as the assessment itself.

- Preparation
- Depart from pontoon
- 180 turn in a confined space
- Mooring to a buoy and anchoring
- Man overboard
- Yacht handling under sail
- Coming alongside a windward pontoon

Minimum Age & Experience
The min age for this assessment / certificate is 16 years.
Costs
£250.00 – Assessment only, per person (up to 4 hours duration)
From £370.00/pp for an ICC weekend ( refresher and assessment)
For many of our courses, it is possible to join the boat the night before, evening meal not included.

Please note all prices shown are per person for the course duration
What is included…
- All onboard meals, Snacks & Beverages
- Yacht fuel, water & gas
- Pillow & blankets
- Wet weather clothing, although we encourage you to bring your own if you have them, not boots or gloves.
What is not included…
- Away from base mooring fees – usually about £45.00 per night, equally divided amongst the crew (not the skipper)
- Towels, sleeping bags & pillowcases
